*End Of Life Preannouncement*

Products listed on this page will soon begin the Sun End of Life (EOL) process. During the EOL transition period, these products will be supported as per existing customer support agreements. After the EOL transition period, these products will no longer be supported by Sun.

During the EOL transition period, customers should begin migrating to products within the Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) family. These include:

Connected Device Configuration (CDC) is a standards-based framework for building and delivering mobile applications for a variety of personal mobile devices. CDC is designed for product scenarios with constrained resources, typically 2 MB of RAM and 2.5 MB of ROM for the Java application environment. CDC is also based on compatibility with standard J2SE APIs. The CDC family includes Foundation Profile, Personal Basis Profile and Personal Profile.

Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) is the smallest general-purpose Java environment CLDC is designed for product scenarios with very limited resources, typically 128 KB to 512 KB of RAM. The CLDC family includes the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) which adds GUI capabilities to CLDC-based devices.
