To assist developers in the development of mobile internet-based applications and services, Sun
Microsystems, Inc. introduces a new product, the J2ME Wireless
Connection Wizard for SunTM Open Net
Environment (SunTM ONE) Studio 4 update 1
. The Wizard generates code to simplify the creation of J2ME to Java 2 Platform,
Enterprise Edition (J2EE) distributed
mobile client/server applications. Some of the key benefits of the Wizard include the ability to:
- Extend your existing web application with a J2ME/MIDP client
- Leverage J2EE services with automatically generated J2ME/MIDP client code
- Focus on the logic of the client application without being distracted by the development and complexity of communication protocols.
- Deploy a connected J2ME/MIDP application on today's low-end mass market devices.

The Wizard builds client and server communication components of an end-to-end application for you based
on a simple specification that you provide. These components provide you with all the efficiency and power
of lightweight calls to remote services without the complexity of hand-coding or the overhead of bulky
generic libraries. The code generated by the J2ME Wireless Connection Wizard Module has a sufficiently
small footprint such that it can be deployed on today's low-end J2ME MIDP devices. The client code adds
as little as 3 kilobytes to a MIDP application's JAR file, leaving more room for your application to make
use of J2ME's power and flexibility. The network bandwidth used in calls from the client to the server is
hardly more than the minimum needed to transfer the raw data, saving users time and per-byte charges.

The J2ME Wireless Connection Wizard is now a standard feature of the Sun ONE Studio 5, Mobile Edition early access release. Please refer to http://wwws.sun.com/software/sundev/jde/studio_me/early_access.html for the download and details
