Interoperability Prototype for Liberty is the first open-source implementation of the Liberty Alliance Version 1.0 specification based on Java technology. IPL is designed to help developers learn how the project Liberty Alliance Version 1.0 specification can be implemented. Written for the Java 2 platform, IPL provides the foundation for building liberty into applications and testing interoperability between liberty compliant solutions such as the Sun ONE Identity Server version 6.0. IPL consists of sample Java source code libraries, implementing the Liberty version 1.0 specification, and is not designed for commercial deployment. IPL is licensed as open source under the Sun Microsystems Open Source License. Project Liberty Alliance 1.0 SpecificationThe project Liberty version 1.0 specification enables federated network identity through providing a standard mechanism and set of protocols, based on open standards. This is accomplished through an opt-in account linking mechanism that enables the sharing of identity and authentication information between identity systems providing for simplified sign-on. Sun ONE Identity ServerSun ONE Identity Server 6.0, with out-of-the-box support for the new Liberty Alliance Version 1.0 specification, provides a comprehensive identity management system which streamlines access management by simplifying the creation and administration of identities as well as the management and enforcement of authentication and access policies to Web-based applications and services. In addition, the Sun ONE Identity Server 6.0 leverages industry standards such as SAML 1.0 (Security Assertions Markup Language) and SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol).
