Description
|
This appears to be a problem with the 2.4.9 linux kernel. It is MP IA64 specific. We're pushing to get a fix in next release of linux. On mutli (dual) processor Itanium linux machies Tonga harness hangs intermittently causing testing to be aborted and re-start. This is pretty much the situation all test groups I talk to till now. Only happens on linux not on windows.
When I check the java process, It occupies ~99% of CPU resources.
How to reproduce:
Run any test suite using tonga harness on dual processor Itanium linux.

Evaluation
|
We think this is a duplicate of the IA64 tomcat hang.

Upon further evaluation this bug appears to be a problem w/ the Linux 2.4.9 kernel which ships with Red Hat 7.2. It is MP specific. We're working with linux kernel developers w/ goal that the kernel shipped with RH7.3 for IA64 will address this. Though this does not appear to be our bug, we're keeping it open and committing it to Mantis to track the work and status.

This problem was caused by several different bugs in the virtual memory
subsystem in linux kernels prior to 2.4.20. Working with the kernel developers
we identified problems and they all appear to be fixed in 2.4.20.
